2010 JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
Mission Statement
Provide a developmental golf program for children of all ages and abilities who are interested in the game of golf.
Vision Statement
The ultimate goal in developing a Junior Golf Development Program is to improve upon the current skill level of each student. As students learn various aspects of the golf swing, the game of golf, putting, chipping, iron play and tee-shots, I believe it is imperative to develop important life skills that mirror the game of golf. The game of golf teaches integrity, humility, morality, perseverance, patience, control and self discipline. These and other characteristics can be learned through developing the skills necessary to become a successful golfer.Golf is a self-regulated game where, as in life, players are offered choices throughout their round that will affect their final result on the 18th green. Golfers make sub-conscious choices every round that will affect their final score. Due to many external pressures, a large percentage of students believe how they will be perceived among their peers once everyone has turned in their scorecard at the end of the day is an important factor that leads people to inhibit their skill improvement. I believe it is important in life and in the game of golf to impose good will, excellent work habits that are derived from setting goals and objectives relative to ones age, experience, abilities and guidelines with assistance from their coach or instructor. Incurring penalty strokes because a leaf falls off of a tree during a practice swing is not something a lot of amateurs are aware of, and like many little details in life, can be easily overlooked.
A successful Junior Development Program is derived from building a solid mental and mechanical foundation that will allow future consistency, ultimately producing lower scores.
Our goal for the 2011 Junior Development Program at Cottonwood Golf Course is to attract 50 Junior Members. We would like to see an enthusiastic group of young individuals truly feel at home at Cottonwood throughout the 2011 golf season. Juniors will be provided with guidelines similar to adult members regarding tee-time bookings, acceptable attire and responsible behaviour while visiting Cottonwood Golf Course.
Junior Membership Fees, Expenses and Guidelines
Cottonwood Golf Course is dedicated to offering our young enthusiasts a very affordable experience. We would like to allow any and all of our junior members to afford our products and services. Junior golfers will be asked to adhere to some basic guidelines regarding their clothing while visiting the golf club. Socks and either golf shoes or running shoes are acceptable footwear. Tailored pants or shorts are acceptable. Shirts with a collar are preferred as other golf courses may not allow visitors without a collared shirt.

Junior Coaching Seminars, Clinics, Coaching Programs
Monday Junior Information Seminars
May 9, 16, 23, 30
We would like to take the time to introduce junior golfers to the history of golf. Information regarding the origins of the game, some of its greatest players as well as technology advancements in golf will be a few of the topics discussed throughout the summer. These complimentary weekly seminars will take place Monday afternoons at 3:30pm followed by ‘five fundamentals’ clinics. Juniors will have an opportunity to register in advance through the golf shop.
Each junior member will be invited to four complimentary 45 minute clinics. These four clinics will introduce students to five basic fundamentals of the golf swing that will allow them a solid foundation to grow from. The ‘five fundamentals’ clinics will take place Monday evenings at 4pm and students will be invited to play nine holes of golf following each clinic under the supervision of a CPGA Instructor.
Monday Intermediate Junior Coaching
This program will focus on juniors with an established index of less than 20.0. The objective of this program is assist juniors looking to set goals and objectives that will help them mature as a player and to shoot lower scores. This four week program costs $40 and will include 60 minutes of instruction beginning at 5 pm followed by 9 holes of golf. Our professional staff will provide juniors with the tools necessary to set realistic goals and objectives as well as monitor their improved performance. Practice habits, training aids and game improving skills will be provided to our juniors to instil a solid foundation for long term continuous improvement. These coaching sessions also assist with teaching patience and realistic expectations that are transferable life skills.
Individual Coaching
Junior members are encouraged to seek private instruction from our CPGA Professionals. Students will be educated in setting realistic goals based on current and future growth. Measuring improvement in the game of golf is also a priority where we will encourage mature thinking while lowering scores through sound practice habits and professional support. Private coaching sessions cost $35 for 45 minutes of CPGA Professional Instruction. A special five lesson coaching package is also available for $175 includes a complimentary three hole playing evaluation. This evaluation allows the student and coach to build a positive relationship that will allow a more productive learning environment for the future; this format is also the most productive way for a coach to see the potential and build a coaching program specific to that individual.
